lon Optics, Inc, and Innovative Micro Technology
(IMT) announced today that they are working together to bring Ion
Optics SensorChip products into production. Ion Optics
SensorChip is a silicon micro-machined infrared gas sensor
that offers significant cost advantages along with reduced size
and power consumption. Initial designs target carbon dioxide and
combustible gas sensing applications in medical devices, process
monitoring, industrial safety, as well as, residential and automotive
sensors. Ion Optics also has opportunities to apply these
wavelength tuned devices to support a variety of homeland defense
and military night vision applications.
According to Chris Mather, CEO of Ion Optics, After
evaluating the service offerings at many foundries, we concluded
that IMT offered the experience and capabilities to bring our device
from prototype to volume production. IMT's strong photolithography
and thin film expertise provide excellent synergy with the precision
requirements of Ion Optics core photonic crystal technology.
John Foster, CEO of IMT, found Ion Optics technology
equally appealing Collectively, IMT has seen many emerging
MEMS technologies that have limited high volume demand. Ion Optics
SensorChips clearly have huge market potential. We are pleased to
be working on the SensorChip technology, which we expect will dramatically
change the gas sensor industry.
About Ion Optics:
Ion Optics, Inc. is the emerging technology leader
in optical-based MEMS gas detection sensors and wavelength tuned
infrared emitters. Ion Optics has developed a patented optical platform
technology for controlling (tuning) the infrared emission and absorption
wavelengths of a silicon surface using two-dimensional photonic
crystals produced through standard, high-volume, semiconductor manufacturing
techniques. For more information visit www.ion-optics.com
